Job Overview
Selection Book is seeking a skilled and dedicated Baker to join their culinary team on board a cruise ship. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in an international, fast-paced hospitality environment while traveling to exciting destinations.
As a Baker on a cruise ship, you will be responsible for producing high-quality baked goods, pastries, and desserts for passengers and crew, maintaining the standards of the cruise line’s culinary offerings. Key Responsibilities
The Baker will perform a variety of duties, including:
- Preparing, mixing, and baking a wide range of breads, pastries, desserts, and other baked items.
- Ensuring consistency and quality of all baked goods served to passengers and crew.
- Measuring ingredients accurately and following recipes precisely.
- Decorating and presenting pastries and desserts attractively.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and baking areas.
- Managing inventory of baking ingredients and notifying supervisors when supplies run low.
- Operating ovens, mixers, and other baking equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assisting with menu planning and special dietary requests when needed.
- Complying with health and safety regulations, food handling standards, and cruise ship protocols.
- Collaborating with the culinary team to ensure smooth kitchen operations during peak hours and special events.
Requirements
- Formal training or professional experience as a Baker or Pastry Chef.
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and pastry decoration.
- Ability to work under pressure in a high-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to work long hours standing and handling baking equipment.
- Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Team-oriented, reliable, and professional attitude.
- English proficiency is highly desirable; additional languages are a plus.
